Replacing The Building Air Conditioner? Use Portable A/C Rentals – Boulder, Colorado May 19th, 2014
It’s spring and days are getting longer and the weather is warming up.  Buildings owners are preparing for hot summer temperatures that are right around the corner.  A critical preparation for summer is to have air conditioning technicians performing necessary maintenance on large rooftop air conditioners to get them in optimal working conditions.  This means technicians will provide standard preventative maintenance on the air conditioners (changing filters, replacing belts, etc…), but often this leads to replacing worn out components (compressor, fan motor, condenser, etc…) or even the rooftop air conditioner itself.

.

At this point you might be asking yourself, how does this directly affect me and my small computer room?  Replacing, fixing, or upgrading a large rooftop air conditioner means taking it offline for a few days until the air conditioning technicians get it up and running again.  As a result your small computer room that was being cooled by the building’s air conditioning system could get dangerously hot.  This can lead to the network going down, loss of stored information on the network, or even an entire server being lost.  These are all costly consequences in terms of lost sales, lost employee productivity, and cost of server replacement. Fortunately, there is a simple and inexpensive solution to prevent expensive occurrences from happening.  Renting a portable air conditioner to keep your small server room cool while the rooftop air conditioner is offline, ensures the safety of your valuable equipment.

.

One of Computer Room Uptime’s most recent rentals did exactly this.  A local company in Boulder, Colorado needed to keep their server room cool while the main building rooftop air conditioners were being replaced.  As you can see from the pictures on the side, the network is fairly small with only two racks of computer servers and equipment.  However without the building air conditioner for the weekend, they generate enough heat to warm up the server room to dangerous temperature levels.  Once this request for supplementary air conditioning came in, our team here at Computer Room Uptime worked closely with this small business in Boulder to set up a delivery and installation time that worked best for their schedule.  For this particular application, one of our cooling experts recommended a MovinCool Office Pro 12 portable air conditioner.  It’s spot cooling capabilities was the perfect remedy for their cooling needs. The dual nozzles focused the cold air directly onto the servers and other IT equipment.  The warm condenser exhaust air was easily ducted up to the drop ceiling, and the condensate tank was monitored during the rental by their staff. This routine installation was simple and non-obtrusive to their daily operations. It was a very easy and successful short term rental, scheduled for just a week, until the new air conditioner could be brought online.

.

Don’t hesitate to Call Computer Room Uptime if you have any questions or cooling needs. Our experts can help you schedule a portable air conditioning rental to keep your computer room cool while your building’s rooftop air conditioner is down.  We will deliver and expertly set up the portable air conditioner within 24 hours of your call anywhere in the Denver metro area.  Computer Room Uptime has a large fleet of small 1 Ton air conditioners, as well as larger 2, 3, and 5 Ton air conditioners that operate on 208 V / 230 V power.  Typically our 1 Ton (12,000 Btu/hr) portable air conditioners are great for these small server rooms, since they’re powerful enough to cool down rooms with IT networks, yet can still operate on standard 115 V power.

Portable Spot Air Conditioners – Industrial Applications / Flight Simulator August 20th, 2013
Portable spot air conditioners are a great cooling solution for various industrial heat problems.  Oftentimes industrial facilities are large warehouses that consist of harsh conditions in terms of heat, dirt, oil and/or chemicals.  These obstacles to traditional cooling make portable spot coolers the ideal economical choice for many applications.  The consequences of not adequately cooling your industrial facility are many; lower productivity, lower output, and equipment failure to name a few.  The end result is lower revenue, higher employee turnover, and a shorter life cycle for expensive capital equipment.  Computer Room Uptime sells and rents several different MovinCool portable air conditioners specifically designed to cool down industrial facilities.  MovinCool pioneered the use of portable spot air conditioners to cool down their employees on the Toyota manufacturing lines in the early 1980s.

.

Industrial Heat Problems:  Cooling Objectives

.

People:      Production / Assembly Lines & Warehouses

Typically large industrial facilities do not have high capacity air
conditioners to cool down an entire production floor and/or warehouse.  Some areas will be subject to high ambient temperatures that will have a significant effect on employee productivity.  In some cases, OSHA violations may occur.

 .

Processes:  Manufacturing – Plastics, Composites, Metals & Food

When products exiting a hot manufacturing process take too long to cool off, product quality and cycle times can suffer, resulting in lower output.

.

Equipment:  Computers & Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)

High ambient temperatures can also negatively affect the performance of heat-sensitive equipment.  This reduces productivity and shortens the life span of expensive capital equipment imperative to many high technology sectors.

.

Computer Room Uptime was recently involved in cooling down a flight simulator warehouse.  The problem was trying to keep several different high-tech flight simulators cool in a large warehouse during the spring, summer, and fall months.  The flight simulators are multimillion dollar pieces of equipment used to train commercial pilots.  This industrial cooling application involved all three cooling objectives above:  People, Processes, and Equipment.

.

People:  Both the students inside the flight simulator executing the training, and the test technicians operating the simulator’s controls need to be kept cool.

.

Process:  To shorten the return on investment (ROI) period for the multimillion dollar flight simulators, it has to be producing revenue (i.e. training pilots) all year round (24/7/365).  Therefore the flight simulators have to be cooled down to the manufacturer’s recommended operating environmental envelope during the warm spring and fall months, and especially during the hot summer months.

.

Equipment:  Excessive heat will have a negative effect on the flight simulators’ computer and hydraulic systems.  The excessive heat will shorten the overall life of the simulator, and reduce the operational hours on the equipment due to increased maintenance and repairs.

.

Cooling Solution

.

This unique application required several different portable spot coolers.  It was essential to keep the flight simulators and control room (equipment), testing technician and student (people), as well as operating environment at optimal temperature (process).  Cooling the flight simulator was the most complex application as it maneuvers in all 3 axes.  The movement can be sudden and unpredictable.  Therefore the portable air conditioners needed to remain a safe distance away.  Fortunately the cool air can be ducted and attached directly to the flight simulator without affecting performance or damaging equipment.  The spot coolers’ flexibility is highlighted with MovinCool units that can duct their cold supply air up to 80 feet away.

.

The large warehouse space is using other portable air conditioners to cool the control room for the testing technician and its controls.  The cold air is being delivered to the control room via flexible ducting as well.  Since portable spot coolers are packaged air conditioners, the warm exhaust needs to be removed from the warehouse.  MovinCool air conditioners are able to duct the warm exhaust air up to 100 feet away to an outside wall, preventing the building from heating up.

It’s amazing how efficient portable spot air conditioners are to cool down large industrial areas.  In the flight simulator case study, the warehouse would need a 25 Ton rooftop air conditioner to properly cool down the majority of the space.  Even with an efficient rooftop air conditioner, hot spots always arise due to heat producing equipment located in specific areas.  Spot coolers are able to efficiently cool down this flight simulator warehouse at a fraction of the cost, and about 1/3 of the total cooling needed for a rooftop air conditioner.  The end result of utilizing multiple portable spot air conditioners instead a large rooftop air conditioner concluded with the following savings:

.

1.  Significant upfront capital savings for the lower cost portable air conditioners (both equipment and installation costs).

2.  Tremendous annual savings on operating expense with lower energy bills and minimal maintenance costs.

3.  Highly efficient “Green” cooling solution that cools the areas that need it without wasting energy to cool unused warehouse space.

Air Conditioning Rentals – Special Events – Colorado Springs July 25th, 2013
Computer Room Uptime rents air conditioners (big and small) to many different industries:  IT Environments, Industrial/Construction, Offices/Schools, Health Care, and Special Events.  From time to time we run across a unique special event that needs portable air conditioning rentals.  We’ve partnered with Toyota Motorsport to cool down their electric race car and crew at the annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb (PPIHC).  The PPIHC race is run on a 12.42 mile course with 156 turns that begins at 9,390 feet and finishes at the 14,100 foot summit of America’s Mountain; Pikes Peak.  The PPIHC is the second oldest motor sports race in America, first completed in 1916, and is located in the Colorado Springs region.  For years, this event has been dominated by purpose-built gasoline-powered hill climbing cars.  During this year’s event Toyota Motorsport placed sixth overall and won the electric car category with its TMG EVP002 car driven by Fumio Nutahara.

 .

Computer Room Uptime provided the spot cooling for the electric car’s battery system and two powerful motors capable of producing 350 kilowatts of power and 664 pound-feet of torque, which set a new lap record of 10 minutes and 15.38 seconds. The EVP002 has a top speed of 143 mph.  The cutting edge technology and batteries located in Toyota’s EVP002 are similar to the high technology IT equipment located in your data center.  They need to be kept cool to operate properly and reliably during this grueling race.  The portable air conditioners were perfect for the crew who could easily load them up in the back of their truck to the racetrack on Pikes Peak.  The spot coolers are a perfect solution, since they pull very little energy and can be run on small generators.  Both the EVP002 and crew enjoyed the cold air their spot cooling rentals provided during the mid 90 degree weekend.

 .

It’s only fitting Toyota Racing rented Computer Room Uptime’s MovinCool spot coolers, since Toyota was the company who originally invented the MovinCool portable air conditioners.  Back in the early 80s Toyota needed a way to cool down their factory workers building their cars.  It turns out that Toyota builds great cars and great portable air conditioners.

 .

Spot Cooler Denver Rentals – Computer Rooms July 23rd, 2013
During the summer computer rooms may need extra cooling to keep up with the hot temperatures outside.  Small server rooms bring an added layer of complexity to cooling most offices because of their high heat load located in a small confined space.  Renting portable spot coolers from Computer Room Uptime is an excellent way to combat the heat generated by IT equipment in your data center.

..

Computer Room Uptime is currently renting spot coolers to a high-tech IT company north of Denver to help supplement their dedicated ceiling mounted Liebert air conditioner.  The older 3 Ton Liebert air conditioner was not keeping up with the heat load from their IT network in their data center.  Luckily they called Computer Room Uptime to deliver (2) MovinCool Office Pro 12 spot coolers to help cool down their computer room.  We rolled in our air conditioners to the front of computer cabinets and blanketed the servers with cold air.  Additionally, this setup helps promote an efficient cold aisle / hot aisle airflow pattern in in the data center.  The spot coolers were able to quickly drop the temperature in front of the servers by 15 °F, bringing down the temperatures to 70 °F.  The MovinCool Office Pro 12 is so efficient that it only costs approximately $0.10/hour to operate.  Therefore this high-tech IT company north of Denver is cooling their $100,000+ IT network for less than $5.00/day in energy costs using (2) Office Pro 12 spot coolers.  Preventing your network from operating in overheated temperatures will avoid costly equipment failures, and provide a faster more reliable network to foster a more productive workforce at your company.  If you look at the (2) MovinCool spot coolers as an inexpensive insurance policy to your data center, you’ll sleep better knowing your servers will always be cool.  Furthermore you’ll avoid breaking the bank on energy costs too, which is comparable to your daily cup of coffee at Starbucks.

..

Computer Room Uptime offers several different air conditioning models that operate on 115 V outlets and will cool your down data center quickly and efficiently.  The 115 V outlets are plentiful in commercial buildings to simplify installation for spot cooling rentals.  The following 115 V MovinCool models all work well in overheated computer rooms:  Classic 10, Office Pro 12, Classic Plus 14 and Office Pro 18.  These air conditioners range from 10,000 Btu/hr to 16,800 Btu/hr, or approximately 1 to 1.5 Tons of cooling.  If your data center is more extensive, then a larger spot cooler could be in order.  Computer Room Uptime carries several different 208 V/ 230 V MovinCool models to meet your needs:  Office Pro 24, Classic Plus 26, Office Pro 36, and Office Pro 60.  These air conditioners range from 24,000 Btu/hr. to 60,000 Btu/hr or 2 – 5 Tons of cooling.  Since IT equipment often operates on 208 V in data centers, finding a higher voltage outlet is not typically a problem.

. .

Computer Room Uptime will work with you on determining the best portable air conditioner to cool your data center.  Our expertise can help determine how much cooling is necessary for your server room, and which spot cooler will work best for you.  There are pros and cons to using multiple  115 V air conditioners vs. one large 208 V spot cooler.  Additionally there are techniques and proven strategies on the best location to set up the portable A/C in your data center.  Often times our expertise can cool down your data center with a smaller air conditioner than our competitors will use, saving you lots of money.  Computer Room Uptime only has well seasoned professionals with years of experience and knowledge delivering and installing our air conditioners.  We analyze and assess each application for optimal efficiency and reliability to ensure your IT equipment is sufficiently cooled.

Portable Air Conditioning Rentals – Office Environments May 29th, 2013
The unofficial start of summer, Memorial Day Weekend, has come and gone, and with it the temperatures have started to climb both outdoors and indoors.  As a result Computer Room Uptime is ramping up on their deliveries of portable air conditioning rentals to the Denver metro area and throughout Colorado.

.

What do you do when your 15 year old roof top air conditioner fails, and your building starts to heat up making your employees and customers want to leave?  you can join hundreds of other business owners, and call Computer Room Uptime to rent portable air conditioners by the day, week, or month.

.

A bank in the Denver metro area called Computer Room Uptime this month after their rooftop air conditioner failed, and the inside temperature started to heat up making it unbearable for their employees.  Unlike a residential house, most secure commercial buildings do not have windows that open up to let in a cool breeze.  Add in the computers sitting on everyone’s desk heating up the office, and you have an unpleasant working environment for your employees. It takes time to diagnose a problem with an air conditioner, and then make the difficult decision to either fix or replace the air conditioner.  Fixing an air conditioner can cost tens of thousands of dollars, and replacing an old unit can cost up to $100,000.  Then factor in the lead-time for parts or a new air conditioner, and you can have unhappy employees sweating at their desks trying to get work done for weeks or months at a time.

.

Computer Room Uptime will respond to emergencies the same day, and install portable air conditioners around your office to quickly cool down your employees and customers.  Our 1 Ton portable air conditioners, 12,000 Btu/hr, are great for the office environment.  They operate on a common 115 V outlet, which allows them to be used anywhere in your building.  Portable air conditioners are great for short-term rentals.  The plug-n-play installation allows Computer Room Uptime to set up in 10 – 15 minutes, and have your office cooled down in minutes.

.

The pictures captured in this blog post show 1 Ton portable air conditioner rentals installed at our bank customer in Denver.  A few cooling units scattered throughout their office were able to drop the temperature enough of their employees to work comfortably.  A short term A/C rental was all they needed to cool down their office while their roof top air conditioner was being fixed.  A small investment in air conditioning rentals kept their employees happy and their productivity up, during an unexpected cooling emergency.  Anyway you look at it; A/C rentals are good for your company’s bottom line.

.

Please call Computer room Uptime at 303-908-8043 for your next air conditioning rental.  We rent air conditioners throughout the state of Colorado and parts of Wyoming.  We deliver portable air conditioners the same day to your Front Range (Denver, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins) location from our Denver warehouse.

Portable Air Conditioners – Hospitals & Laboratories August 9th, 2012
Portable air conditioners play a critical role in keeping the healthcare industry cool. As advancements in healthcare continue to improve, so do the high heat loads with specialty equipment used for diagnosis and surgery. Applications within the healthcare industry are very similar to cooling computer rooms. Both server rooms and medical equipment expel a lot of heat in a small area, which are located in a remote part of a building. Portable air conditioners effectively supplement the central air conditioners found in hospitals, dental offices, surgery centers, laboratories, and health clinics.

.

Space in hospitals is a limited resource, therefore high tech medical equipment that emits large amounts of heat is usually placed in a small private room. Additionally IT equipment and networks are sometimes required for the medical equipment to operate properly. Spot cooling with portable air conditioners are used to combat these hot spot rooms throughout the building to provide a comfortable environment for both the patient and the equipment. Portable air conditioners are a cost effective permanent cooling solution for hospitals and lab environments.

.

MovinCool’s Office Pro 12, Classic Plus 14, and Office Pro 18 air conditioners are extensively used in hospitals because of their high airflows and cooling capacities. These portable air conditioners operate on standard 115 volts that typically take 10 minutes to install without a costly contractor or electrician. MovinCool portable air conditioners are designed and manufactured with the highest quality commercial components to last 10 years with continuous cooling in the harshest environments.

.

Computer Room Uptime sells and rents portable air conditioners to meet all your health care needs. We have 17 years of experience using spot coolers to cool down difficult environments. Additionally our strong engineering expertise will help you decide what solution is best for your application, whether it’s one of portable air conditioners or packaged ceiling mounted air conditioners.

Portable Air Conditioning Rental – Server Room August 4th, 2012
This summer has been hot in Colorado!  Computer rooms are heating up everywhere, and some are requiring extra cooling to keep their IT networks running smoothly.  As the temperatures rise within the data center, the network will slow down and equipment will fail.  The results are lost sales, productivity, and data.  Additionally when you factor in the cost of the equipment, we’re talking about a lot of money spent that could have been prevented with renting a portable air conditioner.

.

The MovinCool Office Pro 12 air conditioner pictured in this computer room is keeping the IT network cool during the summer.  Renting a portable air conditioner combats the increase in computer room temperatures when HOT outside temperatures radiate through an exterior wall or window, or the extreme outside temperatures affect the primary computer room air conditioner’s cooling performance.  Renting a temporary portable air conditioner for your small computer room makes sense to supplement the hot summer temperatures.

.

The MovinCool Office Pro 12 operates on 115 V, and provides 12,000 Btu/hr of cooling. Installations takes 10 minutes.  It is a self contained air conditioner, so we need a way to exhaust the warm air out of the room.  The warm air is typically exhausted through the drop ceiling, but can be exhausted through a window/door/wall as well.  Computer Room Uptime has installed hundreds of temporary portable air conditioning rentals throughout the years, and we specialize in difficult environments.  Our engineering background gives us the problem solving ability to meet your needs.

.

Please call Computer Room Uptime for your next air conditioning rental.  We rent air conditioners throughout the state of Colorado.  We deliver portable air conditioners the same day to your Front Range (Denver, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins) location from our Denver warehouse.

Portable Air Conditioning Rental – TV Set August 3rd, 2012
You never know who will need temporary air conditioning. This summer Computer Room Uptime had two MovinCool Office Pro 24 portable air conditioners cooling down the set of the Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch TV series. No the MovinCool units were not on a crab boat out in the Bering Sea off the coast of Alaska, but they were 9,600 ft. above sea level at The Whale’s Tail in Breckenridge, CO.

.

Computer Room Uptime modified the MovinCool Office Pro 24 air conditioners with 8” flanges to duct cold air 40 ft into the TV set / Whale’s Tail restaurant. The cold air kept the host, Mike Rowe, and the crab captains comfortable while they shot After the Catch Season 6. There are a lot of heat producing equipment needed to produce a TV series. The lights put off a tremendous amount heat, along with all the equipment for video and sound.

.

The challenge with the air conditioning rental was getting the portable air conditioners far enough away from the set so microphones do not pick up any noise while they’re recording the TV show. Therefore Computer Room Uptime modified the MovinCool Office Pro 24 units with specialized 8” flanges to handle the long distance for the cold air. The producers brought in a large generator for all the equipment, and the 230 V power needed to operate the powerful air conditioners was not a problem.

.

Computer Room Uptime is ready for all your temporary cooling needs throughout the state of Colorado, whether it’s your valuable IT equipment or your valuable TV personalities.
